At times, the line between fiction and reality may seem blurred. It can be a tricky, or even disastrous path, as demonstrated by his Orson Welles in his "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast. We will strive to walk the line in good taste, and with greatest respect for you, our audience.
I also created it as a tool to explore various aspects of issues which interest me. Early 19th and 20th century "horror" stories focus on a simple question. "What if the stories that have been told through the centuries are true?" Mary Shelly's Frankenstein was published in 1818, when understanding of electricity and its role in our physiology was in its infancy. Bram Stoker's Dracula simply presented a world where regional Romanian folklore was true.
"Cryptid" is the modern term for creatures who's existence is "unsubstantiated" by "science". These can include surviving members of species thought extinct, like a brontosaurus in Africa, or the Thylacine or "Tasmanian Tiger", the last known one which was filmed in this clip:
But it more commonly refers to creatures who's very existence as a species is doubted. They can include Bigfoot, Yeti, The Loch Ness Monster ("Nessie"), and even vampires and lycanthropes.
Do these things exist? Is the evidence real or fabricated? Are those who step forward and claim responsibility for taking part in hoaxes to be believed any more than those who doubt?
No matter your actual belief in the existence or non-existence of these things, perhaps you can view this blog as permission to become a child again and wonder, "What if?", and indulge in some occasional whimsy along the way.
